Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Honors The Lia Group

We are proud to announce that the northeast chapter of the  Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) recently honored Bill Lia Jr. and the Lia Group at the One Hope Gala for their contributions to the quest to eliminate Type 1 Diabetes.  This annual event, which was recently held on November 10, 2018 at the Albany Marriot, celebrates the extraordinary generosity and dedication of JDRF volunteers, donors, and sponsors.

What is Type One Diabetes?

In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the carbohydrates you eat into blood glucose (also called blood sugar), which it uses for energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to get glucose from the bloodstream into the cells of the body. Presently, there is no cure. the help of insulin therapy and other treatments, even young children can learn to manage their condition and live long, healthy lives.

Now while their focus is on curing T1D, at the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, they also pursue new treatments to keep people with T1D healthy until that day comes. Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults suddenly. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle. There is nothing you can do to prevent it.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading organization the fight against type 1 diabetes (T1D) worldwide.
