Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but some of these car manufacturers have made some…questionable design choices over the years. We all have different styles and tastes, but here’s a list of cars that are some of the most interesting design choices according to many research studies. If you care about looks you may (or may not) want to stay away from these design masterpieces. (Main Photo Credit: CBS News)
Chrysler PT Cruiser

The PT Cruiser was a 4-door hatchback made from 2001 to 2010. Despite being on this list, the car was initially a hit. During its lifetime 1.35 million units were sold. This car was meant to bring a retro design to the Chrysler lineup, but rather it came underpowered and a bit dated. The 70s called; they want their wood paneling back. It may be more at home in your grandmother’s cigarette-stained living room than on the open road.
Pontiac Aztek

Head of its time maybe? Or the only thing cool is it was Walter White’s car in the TV series Breaking Bad. This car was GMs attempt at a crossover SUV to attract the camping crowd. Some of the features included a campaign tent, mattress, and a cooler. Although the car flopped horribly on the market, many attribute it to the car’s interesting design. With a rear window that large, it allowed you to look up at the stars and contemplate all of your other questionable life choices.
Chevrolet SSR

The Chevrolet SSR (Super Sport Roadster) was an all-in-one vehicle that included a truck, hot rod, and a sports car rolled into one. This retractable hard-top convertible came with a V8 300-horsepower engine, but its weird and bubbly design made it anything but cool on the road. This car was only in production from 2003 to 2006. It certainly made people turn their heads and stare. And not possibly not in a good way. This is what Don Ho’s “Tiny Bubbles” would look like as a car.
Nissan Cube

The Nissan Cube is one of the most bizarre cars you will see on the road. It was supposed to be a cool and new car design from Nissan, but instead, it was very odd and boxy (this could be a good thing if you’re into that type of thing). This car was somehow in production for 20 years. Huey Lewis might have said that “it’s hip to be square,” but we’re pretty sure he didn’t want you to take that literally.
Honda Element

The Honda Element may have been the car no one asked for. The release was an attempt to bring in the younger demographic because at the time the Honda Civic was popular among older people. This model was discontinued due to 7 years of declining sales. And yet, every time you turn your head you’ll find this cult-classic car following you around like a clingy poltergeist. You can run but you can’t hide.
Nissan Juke

The Nissan Juke is one of the most unique cars ever made. It was intended to be a compact crossover but ended up being too compact. People are still really divided on this car. They either love it and think it is cute or hate it. The Juke was sold from 2010 and was discontinued in 2017.
Subaru Baja

The Subaru Baja did not last in production long, it only made it 4 short years before being discontinued. Its unique and bold design did not have the sales Subaru thought it would. Customers were looking for trucks that were more practical…and this was neither stylish nor practical. Well, unless your practical applications were a plan of sitting in the bed shouting, “COWABUNGA, DUDE!”
Tesla Cybertruck

It is the general consensus that most find this car ugly. This may or may not be true but it is definitely an acquired taste. The attempt at a futuristic and bold look makes it reminiscent of an alien spaceship. This truck will certainly turn heads, for cough – cough…. reasons. We don’t think Elon’s team made this from an original concept. Rather, it may have been lifted from a second grader’s attempt at drawing a rhombus.
