five Connecticut Lia Locations band together to collect toys for We Are The Children organization

This holiday season, our five Connecticut Lia Locations - Lia Honda Enfield, Lia Hyundai Enfield, Lia Nissan Enfield, Lia Volkswagen Enfield and Lia Hyundai in Hartford - banded together to collect toys for the We Are The Children (WATC) organization.

The WATC partners with the United Way to throw a giant Christmas party on Christmas day for needy families in the greater Hartford area. 2011 will mark the organization's 26th year in providing this service. This year, they are expected to host 900 kids - a record number - who would otherwise go without a hot meal, presents and merriment on Christmas day.

Each of our dealerships provided a vehicle, wrapped with holiday cheer, in the center of their showroom as a collection point for customers and employees to drop off their donations. In addition to the month-long collection, Lia Honda of Enfield hosted 96.5 TIC this past Saturday, in an effort to raise toys, gadgets,& gizmos for the older kids. Anyone who stopped into the store between 9AM and 1PM on Saturday Dec 17th with a toy valued at $25 or more received a $50 Lia Gift card. The response was fantastic! Digital cameras, iPods and DVD players were among some of the generous gifts brought in.

Together, we successfully raised over 400 toys to donate to the We Are The Children holiday party.

To date, WATC is a 100% volunteer-driven organization and maintains a 501 (c) 3 status, with all goods & services donated through local community members. The Lia Auto group is extremely proud to have had the opportunity to contribute to their organization. Look out for future toy collection vehicles in a showroom near you!

Amherst, MA - In 1997, 11-year-old Katelynn Battista lost her battle to cancer. She was a patient at the Jimmy Fund Clinic of the world-renowned Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Baystate Medical Center in Springfield MA. Katelynn's family, local Mix 93.1 radio personalities Dan Williams and Kim Zachary and USPS worker Steven Stark decided to celebrate Katelynn's life. They put together Katelynn's Ride - a cycling fundraising event which benefits research and cancer treatment at Baystate Regional Cancer Programs Pediatric Oncology and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.

Since 2001, Katelynn's Ride has raised more than $1.3 million. This year's Ride will take place Sunday, June 5th at Hampshire College.

KRide participants are comprised of all ages and skill levels. Those participants can choose between riding 10, 25, 50, or 100-mile loops - each begins and ends at Hampshire College. The Lia Group's 6th annual food drive

ALBANY, NY - This past holiday season the Lia Auto Group partnered with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York for the sixth consecutive year in an effort to help those less fortunate.

Each of the five Albany-area dealerships organized food drives at their locations; encouraging customers, staff, family and friends to stop by with contributions for those in need. The dealerships worked throughout December to fill an SUV or truck with non perishable items needed by the food bank. The outcome was a success and on January 6, 2011 the Northeast Regional Food Bank received more than 1000 pounds of non-perishable items from the combined efforts of all the Albany-area stores.

The Lia Auto Group strongly believes in the importance of giving back to the community and we are confident that together we can make a difference. Thank you, for your support and generosity during our 6th Annual Food Drive to benefit the Northeastern Regional Food Bank.

The Lia Group Takes the Kettle Challenge

ALBANY, NY - The Lia Group throughout the Capital Region is proud to have joined other local businesses and individuals to raise money for the Salvation Army during the holiday season for their Kettle Drive.

The Colonie Center Mall and the Colonie Chamber of Commerce teamed up against Crossgates Mall and the Guilderland Chamber of Commerce during this year's Kettle Challenge to see who could raise the most money for the Salvation Army. Of course, the Lia Group was ready to get in the game as well!

The 5 Albany-area Lia dealerships and the 4 local Gold's Gyms challenged one another to raise the most money for the Salvation Army's holiday fund raising drive; creating their own Kettle Challenge. The iconic bright red Salvation Army Kettles were set up throughout December at each of the five area dealerships and gyms and web links were set up on www.liacars.com and www.gotogolds.com allowing people donate both at the stores and online.

The main goal of the Kettle Challenge was to raise funds and increase awareness about what the Salvation Army's programs are doing and how they benefit the community. The secondary goal was to help fill the many open hours that were needed to man the kettles. The Salvation Army uses the money raised through the Holiday Kettle Drive to fund many important programs geared towards helping those who need it the most and during the winter season, the need is great.

The Salvation Army has a canteen truck that goes out five days a week at dinner time to deliver food to the homeless and the working poor. They also have a food pantry that gives a two-week stipend and during the holiday season the need for this rises quite dramatically. Money raised will also help fund a weekday after school program where literacy work and computer assistance are provided to kids. The Salvation Army work also with Sienna College which allows the children to go to the college on Fridays and engage in a fitness program with the basketball players and then come back during the week and learning about nutrition.

Director of Development for the Salvation Army of the Capital Region, Felix Perez, says the current economic climate has put a strain on organizations such as the Salvation Army and he believes programs like the Kettle Challenge will help them to better meet the need.

The Kettle Challenge concluded January 3, 2011, and the winner is far and away the Salvation Army! Thank you to all those who donated so generously to this year's Kettle Challenge!

The Lia Auto Group consistently credits their success to the communities they serve, and they firmly believe in giving back.

For the past several years, the Lia Auto Group has donated to the Enfield Food Shelf each December as part of their group-wide holiday food drive. This year, the four Lia Dealerships in Enfield -- Honda, Hyundai, Nissan and Volkswagen -- have officially established an annual partnership with the Enfield Food Shelf.

Beginning on March 15, 2010, all Lia Auto Group Enfield dealerships will be "drop off" locations for the Enfield Food Shelf. Customers will be encouraged to donate nonperishable items when they visit the dealerships and staff will receive weekly payroll stuffers reminding them of partnership and encouraging them to donate as well.

The Enfield Food Shelf, a nonprofit volunteer organization affiliated with the Enfield Conference of Christian Churches, is dedicated to ensuring that no Enfield resident goes hungry because of a lack of resources. From its humble beginning, hundreds of volunteers have contributed to the Enfield Food Shelf, effort to provide food to the families in need and the Lia Auto Group is proud to be a part of that important endeavor.

The Lia Family Presented the Beacon of Hope Award at the Gala of Hope 2009

Since 2006, the Lia family has generously supported the Coaches v Cancer program, raising awareness of the cancer issue and over $60,000 in support.  Coaches v Cancer is a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.  This initiative was first launched in the Capital Region three years ago, and the Lia Family was among the first to offer support.

Known for their creativity, the Lia Family is always trying something new to generate excitement.  Last year, the Lia Auto Group donated a 2009 Toyota Camry to be awarded via a reverse raffle, with all proceeds benefiting the American Cancer Society.  The reverse raffle is a popular fundraising method in which money raised over time; non-winning numbers announced before the close of the event in order to spur on additional ticket sales, and the winning ticket is drawn last.  After several months of generating funds via raffle, the Lia's were able to present a check for $30,000 to Coaches v Cancer on Saturday December 6, 2008 during the Siena vs. U Albany basketball game at the Times Union Center.

While financial support is a significant part of the Lia Groups partnership with the American Cancer Society they also play an integral role in transporting cancer patients to life saving treatment.

Many patients in the Capital Region rely on our Road to Recovery program, staffed in part by drivers from the Lia Auto Group Dealerships.  Because of their volunteerism, ACS has been able to provide over 3,000 rides for cancer patients this year, and the requests continue to increase.

This year the Lia Family is generously taking on the VIP Underwriter Sponsorship of the Coaches v Cancer Ball on October 8th 2009 at The Egg in Albany.  Click on the Coaches v Cancer link located on the Liacars.com homepage for more details and to purchase your tickets.

The Lia Family is a consistent supporter of non-profit programs in our community.  Liacares.com is dedicated to sharing information about their involvement in various other charities, including Center for Disabled Services, Hannah's Hope Fund, Juvenile Diabetes, Northeast Regional Food Bank and many other organizations.  They serve as a true model of philanthropy in the Capital Region, and the strong partners in our fight against cancer.
